A Little About Me

Welcome!

Is your faith something good that was handed down to you, but still feels like it belongs to someone else?

Have you tried to pray and read the Bible but gave up because it’s hard and confusing?

Maybe you are new to faith and don’t know where to start in your walk with God.

If you want to grow spiritually, but you feel like “doing faith” is alien to you, I invite you to join me and start making friends with your faith today.

I got hooked on Jesus early in life.

There were direction signs pointing toward him everywhere in my childhood and by the time I was a teenager, I was a serious Jesus follower. The Bible became my go-to source for life’s answers and I learned how to search its pages and discover what it had to say on almost every topic.

I got hooked on prayer in my childhood, too.

I’ve always admired faith-filled people who pray and receive answers to their prayers, so I set out early to learn how to pray. Eventually I discovered the tradition of monastic prayer by reading a book written for medieval monasteries by St. Benedict. The book, The Rule of Benedict, describes eight Divine Hours, or times of prayer, that guide people through their day. After practicing the Divine Hours of prayer for a year I wrote my own book, Pray Through Your Day: Learn to Pray the Benedictine Way.

Now I help others get hooked on the Bible and prayer.

As an adult I wanted to help other people fall in love with the Bible, too, so more than thirty years ago I began teaching classes and leading Bible studies.

In 2011 I prepared a study of the entire Bible, using Tyndale’s One Year Bible as a text. For twelve months more than forty adults joined me for weekly discussions, and used a devotional guide I wrote as a daily companion to the One Year Bible. It’s always awesome to see people light up about their faith as they learn about the Bible.

In 2018 my book  Pray Through Your Day: Learn to Pray the Benedictine Way, came out and it serves as an introduction to the Divine Hours for people who don’t live in a monastery. I’m still enjoying learning about new ways to pray.

I know the Bible is a challenging book and prayer can be mysterious, but prayer and Bible reading really are for everyone. The best way to experience them is in a community where people help each other grow, so I invite you to join our community and together let’s make friends with our faith.

My husband and I live in California, where we raised four children who have blessed us with nine grandchildren. My greatest joy in life is following Jesus, studying the Bible and growing in prayer. It never gets old and I love to share my joy with others.
